Australia approves plan to dump dredge in Great Barrier Reef
BBC News: Australian authorities approved a project to dump dredge spoil into the Great Barrier Reef marine park on Friday as part of a larger project to create one the world’s largest coal ports.
Scientists objected of the project, saying the spoil could smother or poison the coral in the park.
According to authorities, the disposal operation would be restricted to certain areas free of coral reefs and ‘subject to strict environmental conditions.’
